How we choose equipment About our buying links

OUR RECOMMENDATION

Buy Ironmaster if you need the supplied 75 lb capacity and train in straight sets with time to change plates. Buy PowerBlock for frequent load changes, but price the expansion stage that reaches your actual working weights. The Stage 1 price cannot stand in for a 100 lb pair.

Price the weight you will take home

PowerBlock’s “100” describes the expandable system. To meet or exceed the Ironmaster pair’s 75 lb ceiling, the order needs to reach PowerBlock’s 80 lb stage. That is the useful price comparison for a lifter already using heavy dumbbells.

How a normal session will feel to organise

A press, rest, reload routine gives Ironmaster’s square plates and partially turning screws a natural place in the session. Its 75 lb dumbbell is 14.5 inches long. Allow a loading surface beside the pair so plates do not end up in the bench’s path.

For circuits, shared sessions or several exercises with different loads, PowerBlock’s pin selection is the stronger design choice. Small changes still involve its removable micro-weights. Choose the handle option deliberately too: the current listing offers knurled stainless and cushioned TPR grips.

Buy the next useful increment

If your current adjustable pair still covers your presses and rows, neither replacement needs to be the next purchase. A missing bench or a suitable stand can change more of the session. When you do need heavier dumbbells, Sam’s Fitness lists the no-stand Ironmaster pair; its delivery or restock timing belongs in the order. The PowerBlock route linked here is US-based, so a landed quote is needed before treating it as the cheaper package.

Before you decide

01

Does your heaviest press or row already exceed 40 lb per hand?

02

Are fast changes between exercises worth paying for the required PowerBlock stages?

03

Do you have an accessible surface for cradles or loose plates?
